Today, October 7, 2012, in Ankara

Dear friends,
Today was a very full day! At 10:00 in the morning, Yüksel and Peter went walking to the place of the big manifestation of Alevi groups. When we arrived to the square we had to pass by the police who checked if we had weapons. We said good-day (merhaba) and gave them a smile, which they returned. There weren’t too many people in the square so we went for coffee and chai, passing again through the police. There were lots of policemen. At 11:30, Hüseyin called. He had arrived to the house/salita from South Africa. We agreed that he would come to the square. A while later, Mehtap called and said she was just arriving to the square. So we went back to the square, again passing through the police and repeating the procedure. Many people had arrived, the square was coloring many flags and posters. We met Mehtap and her brother and  while later Zehra arrived with Fatosh (her daughter). At the same time the two marches entered at both sides. Very colorful and very orange.
To understand better what happened, Mehtap, her brother, Zehra and Fatosh and Peter moved around the square, reading the flyers and listening to slogans translated into English by Mehtap, while taking pictures of everything. It was a wonderful experience seeing so many good people, many of whom were young, all together in an atmosphere full of human warmth and unity. It was obvious that one of the issues was to say no to the imminent war against Syria and the US interference in middle eastern countries. An asking for peace in the whole world and for Alevi freedom of expression and the end of all violence against them. There were also many Syrian youths. We spent some good moments together and in contact with the human. It was great being there with a group of messengers.
At 13:30 we decided to go back home. Hüseyin and Yüksel had talked on the phone and were on their way. Mehtap took Peter home and went to Kizilay to meet a friend. Handan called and we agreed to meet at 17:00 at home and go together (Handan, Yüksel, Hüseyin and Peter) to Yüksel ‘s friends’ Suhela and Barbün’s house. Suhela had invited us to dinner.
We took 2 metros to arrive, it was pretty far away and we were well received. The youngest daughter was also there, Iluna, who gave us a short and very good violin concert. We stayed there until around midnight, talking about everything in an excellent human atmosphere. At a certain point they started asking about our humanism and Silo’s Message and a beautiful exchange developed. It was so animated we ended up losing the last metro and had to take a taxi. We gave the Book and Comments to Suhela and Barbün and they told us to please come back for another get-together before Peter leaves.
There was also a special moment when Suhela called a friend, Saniye, who lived in Holland for a long time but now is back in Ankara with her husband and daughter. Peter and Saniye talked for a long while in Dutch and Saniye wants to meet him and bring her daughter along. So we agreed to meet in Kizilay in the following days.
It was a day rich in new experiences, with old friends and meeting new and beautiful people: Mehtap’s brother, Suhela, Barbün, Iluna and Saniye.

A big hug to all,
Mehtap, Handan, Zehra, Hüseyin, Yüksel, Fatosh and Peter

Today, October 6th, in Ankara

Hello friends,
Today, Saturday, October 6th, Mehtap, Zehra, Handan, Yüksel and Peter got together to exchange about our experiences with Silo’s Message. Our friends arrived at 13:00, Handan at 14:00 and we talked until 15:30. The atmosphere was very loose and caring. Everyone expressed themselves vivaciously and sincerely, each one told the others about how their participation in the Message and reading of the Book had influenced their daily lives.
By the things we said and some questions we could deepen the issue of the weekly meeting as a fixed point for the messengers and if this weekly moment is integrated in our lives, by simple repetition, it will produce more and more favorable changes. We also talked about the difficulties found in our immediate environment due to the not so enthusiastic reactions to our invitations of coming to the meeting. We cleared up that it’s good that each week our friends and family know about the meeting of the Message and that all of them are welcome if they want to join. This simple action is good for us because we can express what is important to us and at the same time remind those close to us that every week there is a meeting in the same place and that they are welcome. We imagined what could happen if one day some asks “and where is the meeting?”, because something happens and a need arises.
We also talked about how to give continuity to the weekly meeting, no matter how many people come, be there 3, 5, 10 participants or more. That the most important thing is to give continuity to our own process of internalization of the experience.
After this exchange, Zehra asked for the keys to the house/salita and arranged with Yüksel so that both have the keys to make sure that each week there will be a meeting.
We liked this exchange very much, it was accompanied with chai and sweets and we agreed that it is a good idea to do it regularly at the salita with friends who are interested in this.
We also talked about the translation of the Manual of Formative Themes and Practices for Messengers and Mehtap volunteered to start the translations beginning with the formative themes. We said that, once one theme is translated, it would be interesting to meet, read it and exchange about the text. So, that little by little, the messengers can become acquainted with the proposals of the Manual.
At 15:30, Handan and Yüksel had to go. Mehtap, Zehra and Peter did ceremonies requested by Mehtap. It was a very strong experience, so we already have the register that even with only 3 people, one can have good experiences with the ceremonies.
At 16:00, we left to go look for some bulbs for the house and Mehtap invited us to meet a friend of hers from Izmir who is spending some days in Ankara. We met him in Kizilay, his name is Tayfun and he is a very open and caring person. We went to a place, a kind of indoor garden, to eat and talk and Mehtap wanted to offer us food. Mehtap explained some things about Silo’s Message to Tayfun and at the end, after they talked for a while in Turkish among them, we talked again about the Message, the importance of nonviolence, especially now, in these times of crisis and violence. Tayfun invited us to go to Izmir when we want. So we have a good, new contact in the city.
We also talked about a possible Park in Turkey and what are the more adequate regions for it. Mehtap mentioned some villages near Ankara which are alevi and that we won’t have problems there. Tayfun said that the outskirts of Izmir are also favorable, due to peoples’ open attitude. They also agreed with Iskeshir and surrounding area.
So it was wonderful, exchanging about this project we have.
At 19:00 we said good-bye and agreed to meet tomorrow for the Alevi manifestation. After that, Yüksel’s friend invited us to her house and we will go there.
It is 21:15, Yüksel has just arrived and both of us will have dinner at home.
A big hug for everybody,

Mehtap, Zehra, Yüksel, Handan y Peter

The first 2 days in Ankara

Hello friends,
I will tell you a little bit about the 2 first days in Ankara.
Yesterday, October 1st, I arrived at the Ankara house/salita at 18:30. After having settled in and bought some food, Handan arrived and we spent a very pleasant hour and a half together talking about our things and the situation in Turkey. Mehtap and Zehra were also supposed to come but they couldn’t so they will be here tomorrow before the weekly meeting of the Message.
Today, October 2nd, during the day, I fixed some house stuff, like paying the gas with the card and change the contributions of our friends in Turkish liras. Afterwards, I went to Kizilay to have chai at a terrace and I thought to call Yüksel to check to see if we would see each other today. Right when I was sitting down, I saw Yüksel and called him over. We hugged and he told me he would be back in a minute and left his things on the table. A while later he came back with a friend, Reyan, I invited them to have chai and we started talking. Reyan works with Yüksel in his business as a graphic artist. She is a beautiful person and we spent some time together. We agreed with Yüksel we would see each other later at home for the meeting. He called Ümit who said he would also come to the meeting.
I must say that I had done askings since last night, asking for the advancement in Ankara of the Message and that I can do what I want to do with friends and that they days are full of good things.
So the first day started very well.
At 19:30, Zehra and Mehtap, Tülay, a friend of Mehtap’s from work. A very nice and open person. We had chai in the kitchen. In the meantime, Yüksel arrived and we moved to the salita to do ceremonies. It was the first time for Tülay and she had a good experience. The others too because the atmosphere was very beautiful and relaxed. Mehtap guided the service and Zehra the well being. Tülay was very thankful and asked if she could do the ceremonies by herself at home. So back to the kitchen, I explained to her the experience of the asking, taking a deep breath, taking the air to the hear and doing an asking. She was very happy with this. Meanwhile, Yüksel served us something to eat, food he had prepared before in case someone was hungry.
We talked about the Alevi event we are all going to this Sunday. We decided to go together, Yüksel will come sleep over on Saturday night and Sunday at 10:00 he is taking me to the event. Tülay invited me to her house to eat after the event on Sunday and asked us to do ceremonies at her house. So we will all go there.
I proposed to Mehtap, Zehra and Yüksel, if it sounds like a good idea to them, to exchange one day about our personal experiences with the Message. It seemed good to them and we agreed to meet on Saturday at 15:00 for this exchange.
We also agreed to meet Huseyin, Zehra’s husand and the director of the Kizilay Alevi center during the event to agree on one day next week to talk about a possible presentation of the Book at the Alevi center.
Our friends went home at 21:30, very happy and radiant. I was super happy, because the images I had for the following days, ocurred so quickly. I’m sure my askings are involved.
Handan and Ümit were also supposed to come but for some reason they couldn’t, I imagine. I will call them tomorrow as well as other friends.
A strong hug to all and thank you very much for the support,
Peter

Türkçe Silo’nun Mesajı Kitabı Tanıtımı Türkiye Turu Haziran-Temmuz 2012

Türkçe Silo’nun Mesajı Kitabı Tanıtımı Türkiye Turu
Haziran-Temmuz 2012

Hozat (Tunceli Festival) 28 July

We (Federica, Yüksel, Eduardo, Paolo, Christophe, Marco) have to wake up really early in the morning to be at the bus station at 8 a.m. and once arrived we have to wait more then one hour for the bus that at the end we couldn’t take. anyway we were in time to reach Hozat for the breackfast offered by the organizer of the dersim festival in a new park of the village.

Hozat is a very little village completely besieged by militars where it was set the exhibition of the massacre of 1938 (the turkish army killed about 60000 allevian people and this violent occupation was asserted by changing the name of Dersim to Tunceli).
We went there not only to attend to the festival but also to visit Nanli and her family. She is a very kind lady who once participated to a message’s weekly meeting in Ankara and who invite us for a wellbeing in her house cause she feels depressed.

Also Ozan Zeynep and Zehra came with us and Ozan help us for the traslation. We made firstly an office and then the wellbeing with all the family, but before she explains us her mental state, the anguish, the fear that something orrible could happen to her sons and grandchildrens. For us it was not difficult to understand her mood since from her balcony you just see the barrack and the military presence influence the atmosphere of all the village.

The cerimonies were hold by Zehra and they were bot deeply affecting all of us, but the most important was the changing of Nanli’s face and she tells us that she will continue with the cerimonies and also the possibility to use on little abitation in front of her house as a «salita».

After the cerimonie we enjoy a very traditional dish, called something like «sir».

Later we could have a little stand in the main street of the village next to the place of the concert. We could make some contacts but the most important was the deepening relation and talks that we could have with Zeynep and Fuat. At a certain time they where discussing between them about the principles and Paolo remarked as this is the perfect way for the free interpretation of the message. Fuat finally bought the book.

All of them live in Istanbul and we whish that they will contribute the  Message comunity of Kadikoy.

The day in Hozat with these new friends finished dancing parisans songs.

Report of July 28 in Tunceli

The 28th was our last day of activity in Tunceli.
Again we split in two groups: some of us stayed in the city and others went to Hozat, a place nearby where another part of the Festival was taking place.
In Tunceli the heat was almost unbearable and so we passed the morning and first hours of the afternoon looking for the shade of cafes. This gave us the opportunity to rest and to exchange a lot about the value of this experience.
Eduardo and Christophe came back at 18h and we joyfully started “our work”. Some friends we met on the previous days came back to say hello, others approached asking for information, others bought the book.
At 21h, Ercan, a friend of Arzu, came to the stand to go to the hotel with us in order to do a ceremony together and another friend also joined. Going to the hotel we realized that none of them spoke a word of English...
So we arrived each one with some noise in their heads: how are we going to manage?!!! But we tried with our very poor Turkish to give some explanations... the puzzled faces of our friends made us think they didn’t understand anything... so Judit, very upset, raised her arms to heaven crying: “please, a translator!”
In that moment, but really in that moment, 2 men and a woman, we had never seen before, appeared behind our backs... and them woman said: “here we are; I speak some English!”...
I cannot describe our state of being very well... I remember for some moments we were completely disconnected without knowing what do do...
Since we were already in the ceremony the first who managed to speak started giving some information about how to put one’s self in the ceremony (eyes closed, back straight) and how to predispose one’s self internally... at the end of the explanation, when we were about to begin, Judit realized the boys didn’t even know the book we were comenting was “Silo’s Message”!!! So we gave some information about the book and at the end, the girl asked, “do you have one?” I want to buy it!!!
The level of surrealism was such that it began to seem normal so we started behaving normally with our new friends, for example, we asked their names and some personal information like: “how did you arrive here?!!!!
And so the mystery was solved... we found out the young boys were brothers who were born in Tunceli and then moved to Holland and the other boy was her fiancé. They explained they came back for summer vacation. They told us they arrived there because their uncle called and asked to pass by to see if someone who spoke English was needed. In that moment we remembered that one of the boys who joined the ceremonies, when he arrived, approached a man who worked at the hotel and talked to him for a while. We thought it was because they knew each other but we found out the man was the “uncle” who found translators for us!!!!
Anyway, the ceremony was very beautiful... our new friends comented it was dificult to make silence but they felt it was something “good”. They left their contacts and we told them about Peter, who lives in Holland, will send them more information about “Silo’s Message”.
To end the night in the same surrealist tone, the younger boy left saying “Ciao bella!!!!”
